TUI on German travel trends: Greece leads in all ages

Greece ranks high as a holiday destination among the preferences of German-speaking travelers of all ages is Greece as a holiday destination, with Spain, Germany and Turkey completing the top-4.

Even though these destinations are popular at all ages, travelers over 60 differentiate themselves by selecting as their first choice the Canary Islands.

Destinations in the eastern Mediterranean are more popular among younger ages, under 40 years of age.

This data, as well as the dominant trends of tourists from different ages, are revealed by the large tour operator TUI, after analyzing statistics of thousands of bookings from its vast customer base in German-speaking countries.

The figures are derived from reservations made in the years 2015/16 and 2016/17 in TUI, XTUI, 1-2-FLY and airtours.

According to TUI, Germans under 40 prefer more and more all inclusive-holidays in the summer, while those over 60 travel more often in the first few months of the winter.

Especially in the June-August period, the under-40s precede all other age groups, while a favorite time for those over 60 is from November until May.

However, all ages prefer to book in January.

Young tourists make shorter vacations on average than the older ones. Those over 60 often prefer holidays 2 weeks and more while the younger ones mostly 5 days.
