Many of the performances hosted at or created for the Onassis Cultural Center in Athens are making their way abroad, in accordance with the Center’s guiding principle of promoting modern Greek culture abroad.
In that context, Anestis Azas’s and Prodromos Tsinikoris’s “Clean City”, starring immigrant cleaning workers, travels across Europe, and specifically reaches:
- Spain, Barcelona: Grec Festival, July 13-14
- Germany, Dusseldorf: ASPHALT Sommerfestival, July 21-22
- Romania, Timisoara: German State Theatre, October 10
- France, Lyon: Festival Sens Interdits October 24-25
- Switzerland, Baden: Culturescapes Festival, Kurtheater, Novemnber 9
- Switzerland, Chur: Chur Theater, November 14
- Switzerland, Basel: Kaserne November 17-18
- Germany, Berlin: Maxim Gorki Theater November 21-22
The Center’s dance productions are also featured in various festival’s across the world, with the Aerites Dance Group’s and Patricia Apergis’s “Cementary”recently having played Barcelona’s Grec Festival, and “Peregrinus”, Zoi Dimitriou’s site-specific performance heading to Ireland for Cork’s Firkin Crane on July 20-23. Also touring to France for Lille’s La Rose de Vents is RootlessRoot’s Europium (September 28-29).
Having made its global premiere at the Onassis Cultural Center, Dimitris Papaioannou’s “Great Tamer” is also touring all over the world, having so far been performed at Amsterdam’s Holland Festival, Napoli’s Teatro Festival Italia, and Barcelona’s Grec Festival. The performance is currently at Madrid’s Veranos de la Villa Festival (July 11-13), planning to follow this up with the Avignon Festival (July 19-22 & 24-26), the Seoul Performing Arts Festival (September 28-30), Basel’s Culturescapes Greece (October 5-8), Stockholm’s Dansens Hus Sweden (November 8-10), Taipei’s National Performing Arts Center – National Theater & Concert Hall (November 16-19), Lisbon’s Cultural Centre of Belém (March 2-3, 2018), Porto’s Teatro Municipal (March 9-10, 2018), Paris’s Théâtre de la Ville / La Villette (March 20-23, 2018), Luxembourg’s Les Théâtres de la Ville (March 29, 2018).
At the same time, in the interior, Iris Karayan’s “Alaska” is part of the 23rd Kalamata International Dance Festival (July 17).
Also included at festivals in various European cities are the Onassis Cultural Center’s musical productions: Sokratis Sinopoulos Quartet’s “Eight Winds” is playing Germany’s Münsterland Festival (October 6), and Switzerland’s Culturescapes Festival (November 24-26), where the Harris Lambrakis Quartet also performs.
