Benefits and payments amounting to 700 million euros will be disbursed to Greek citizens over the next two days, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Tuesday, speaking on SKAI television. He also left open the possibility of further support if the fiscal space allows it, according to ANA.
“Today and tomorrow, the emergency support of 250 euros will be paid to 2.4 million citizens, the so-called cost-of-living cheque. This measure amounts to 500 million euros. At the same time, 865,000 of our fellow citizens that applied for the heating oil benefit will receive 190 million euros, of the 300 million euros that the benefit amounts to in total, if they have given an IBAN. I believe that by tomorrow night, 700 million euros will have been credited to the wallets of citizens for the tough period that is coming. At the same time, we have an extension of the vehicle road tax fees for two months and the subsidy of heating oil by 15 cents [a liter],” Staikouras said.
