Brisbane’s largest Paniyiri Greek Festival in Australia on May 19-20

It’s that time of year again in Queensland, where thousands of Greeks, Greek-Australians or just friends of Greece get together for the famous Paniyiri Greek Festival.

Set for May 19 and 20 in Musgrave Park and The Greek Club, Edmondstone St, South Brisbane, organizers describe Paniyiri as a “kaleidoscopic cultural explosion that is now legendary with over 50,000 Greeks and honorary Greeks”.

This year’s festival will mark 42 years – a landmark cultural and celebratory milestone. Over four decades Paniyiri has grown to become Queensland’s signature celebration of all things Greek and the state’s biggest cultural festival as well as the country’s longest-running Greek festival.

It is a success story which started in 1976 when a group of passionate Greek Australians wanted to share their cultural traditions with Brisbane.

Fast forward to 2018 and more than 60,000 are expected to take part with a range of celebratory events in the lead up, and over the weekend of May 19 and 20.

The full program of music, food and entertainment can be found at paniyiri.com.
