The Athens Public Transport Organization (OASA) announced on Tuesday it will crack down on car drivers using bus lanes reserved exclusively for public transport vehicles, by reactivating some 14 video surveillance cameras currently installed in central roads of the Greek capital.
A statement by the organization summarized the key benefits from rendering bus lanes exclusive to buses again: raising the speed of transport vehicles to 23 kmph; improving overall public transport performance and reducing private car use; making buses more fuel-efficient; and improving the Greek capital’s public transport environmental footprint.
