The evolving Greece-Egypt relations are strategic, and are supported by the leadership in both Cairo and Athens, said Ambassador of Egypt to Greece Omar Youssef at a briefing of Greek journalists held on Thursday, ANA reports.
The Egyptian diplomat welcomed Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ planned participation in the 27th Conference of the Parties of the UNFCCC (COP27 Climate Change Conference) that will be hosted in Sharm El Sheikh on November 6-18.
Youssef said he welcomes the regular consultations and cooperation between both sides through bilateral and trilateral meetings, the last of which was Greek Foreign Affairs Minister Nikos Dendias’ meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shoukry in Egypt last month.
This stable cooperation has allowed Greece and Egypt to take the necessary steps towards the realization of projects such as the two countries electricity interconnection, or the draft agreement to regulate the seasonal hiring of Egyptian agricultural workers in Greece.
The two countries have the potential to expand their cooperation in other fields, including in the cultural, commercial, and tourism domains, he added. Here, the ambassador noted that it is the role of the relevant stakeholders to take the necessary steps to this end, including media outlets. Building the necessary partnerships to ensure that adequate information is provided to the Greek audience is key to that effect, he stressed.
