What’s worth seeing this week (January 7-14)

“The Great Chimera” on ERT

If you are looking for a good excuse for quality binge-watching, The Great Chimera is the series to watch these days. The highly anticipated ERT production, based on the iconic novel by M. Karagatsis, premiered on ERTFLIX on New Year’s Day, with the first two episodes available from the very first minute of 2026. It also airs on ERT1 every Sunday at 22:00. With a cinematic aesthetic, international co-production, and a strong cast, the series transports us to the 1930s and the turbulent journey of Marina, a woman trapped between passion, desire, and social conventions. M. Karagatsis’s deeply erotic and existential work seeks to faithfully and intensely bring to life a landmark novel of modern Greek literature.

A Velvet Night with Takis and Elena

If you are looking for a night out with sparkle, theatricality, and intense glamour, the velvet nights at NOX – The Cabaret Edition are the ideal choice. The new cycle of performances opens with the spectacular The Velvet Night, an enjoyable journey into the world of cabaret, where the explosive Takis Zacharatos meets the radiant Elena Paparizou. With the artistic direction of Fokas Evangelinos, the show combines impersonation, humor, strong performances, dance, and a sensual atmosphere in a high-aesthetic production. The evening is completed with a Culinary Experience by Beefbar, turning the night out into a complete experience.

Tours at the Alekos Fassianos Museum

January begins with an ideal cultural suggestion at the Alekos Fassianos Museum, which opens its doors to the public with guided tours dedicated to the life, work, and unique universe of the great artist. Every Saturday of the month (January 10, 17 & 24), visitors have the opportunity to explore the permanent exhibition and discover the breadth of Fassianos’s creations: from early abstract works and Byzantine influences to the iconic neighborhood heroes and figures from Greek mythology. At the same time, his multifaceted personality is revealed through design objects, stage sets, and archival material. On Saturday, January 31, the tour takes on a dialogical character, inspired by the contemporary visual intervention of Eugenia Vereli. A visit that combines art, storytelling, and architectural experience.

Quinn’s: A Bar with Soul in Ilisia

For a night out that combines elegance, warmth, and quality drinks, Quinn’s in Ilisia is the new city hotspot. Created by Ilias Marinakis, the space evokes an old pub, with a heavy wooden bar, mosaic floors, and stools fixed to the ground, offering a sense of familiarity from the first step. The cocktail list honors the classical school, while creations like Stupid F Bird* and Venus in Furs bring playful freshness and originality. Periklis Koskinas’s comfort food menu completes the experience, while the excellent coffee from Create offers the perfect start to the day. At Quinn’s, you don’t just come for a drink; you come to experience a place that feels like it has always existed, with genuine soul, great flavors, and atmosphere.

Cinema and Psychoanalysis with Sidney Lumet’s 12 Angry Men

For a different and meaningful Sunday outing, Cinema & Psychoanalysis suggests the screening of the iconic film 12 Angry Men by Sidney Lumet, on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at 14:00, at Danao Cinema. The 1957 courtroom masterpiece, with Henry Fonda in one of his most iconic roles, follows twelve men tasked with deciding the fate of a young defendant, bringing to the fore prejudices, certainties, and cracks in the truth. After the screening, a discussion with a psychoanalytic and cinematic perspective will follow, as part of this year’s theme on “mutations of truth.” An experience for those who seek cinema that continues to engage with the present.

For Aperol Spritz at Stegi

For a relaxed yet cosmopolitan night out in the heart of the city, Bar 107 on the ground floor of Stegi is the new destination worth discovering. With a retro ’70s aesthetic and a warm atmosphere, it welcomes you before or after a performance, after work, or even as a meeting spot with friends. In collaboration with the Nokela Project, the bar offers signature cocktails, selected wines, and a tasty tapas menu that makes every drink an experience. From an Aperol Spritz in the afternoon to an Old Fashioned late at night, Bar 107 immerses you in a unique atmosphere where time seems to stop. Even if you don’t have a ticket for a production, you can simply enjoy bruschetta, tarts, and the ultimate relaxation offered by Stegi’s new hotspot.

Agenda January 7–14: The Great Chimera on ERT, psychoanalytic cinema at Danao, tours at the Fassianos Museum, and glam nights with Zacharatos.
