In June 2017, the balance of travel services recorded a surplus of 1,9 million euros, up 15.5%, according to information by the Bank of Greece. In June 2016, the surplus amounted to 1,66 million euros. Travel receipts rose significantly and this was driven by a 13.0% increase in inbound traveller flows and by a rise in average expenditure per trip by 1.6% to €589. In January – June 2017, the balance of travel services showed a surplus of 3,174 million euros, up 9.4%, from a surplus of 2,901 million euros in the same period in 2016.
Breaking down receipts by visitor’s country of origin, in the EU, receipts from France grew by 14.2%, from Germany by 16.3% and from the United Kingdom by 8.5%. Regarding countries of origin outside the EU, receipts from Russia rose by 20.3%, while receipts from the US rose by 33.6%.
