Greek Finance Minister: The first ND budget is both optimistic and realistic

“This budget, the first to be tabled in parliament by the New Democracy (ND) government, is optimistic but also realistic. It includes realistic policies and incorporates initiatives to boost both supply and demand in the economy,” Finance Minister Christos Staikouras said on Wednesday in Parliament, presenting the draft budget for 2020 to the appropriate parliamentary committee, according to ANA.

The government has also implemented a “brave” reduction of the ENFIA property tax and significantly improved the framework for private debt to the Tax Bureau, enabling 613,770 citizens to take advantage of the new regulations, he added, while simplifying the procedures for protecting primary residences to allow more homeowners to reach a settlement, as well as abolishing the capital controls imposed in 2015, “following the irresponsible negotiation of the previous government.”

Staikouras pointed to the government’s progress in flagship projects that had been stalled, such as the investment at the former Hellinikon airport, and in speeding up privatisations, such as the sale of 30% of Athens International Airport (AIA).
