The European Council gave the “green light” to the SURE Program to boost employment. Through the program, loans of up to 100 billion euros can be made available to the Member States on, especially favorable terms, int.ert.gr reports.
As noted in the European Council’s relevant announcement, SURE offers Member States the opportunity to request financial assistance from the EU to finance increased public spending on employment support measures, such as granting emergency benefits to temporarily suspended workers.
SURE is one of three pillars of the 540 billion-euro pan-European security net for jobs and employees, businesses, and member states, for which an agreement has been reached between EU finance ministers at the Eurogroup on 9 April 2020. European leaders adopted the Eurogroup report on April 23. The 540 billion euro package will be implemented from June 1, 2020.
