Greece to focus on short-term measures against pandemic's effect on tourism

Greek government spokesman Stelios Petsas said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ upcoming policy speech at the Thessaloniki Helexpo Forum on Saturday will focus on two directions: the short-term management of the pandemic’s effect on tourism and relevant professions and medium-term solutions with reductions in taxes, social insurance contributions, to stimulate employment and growth, ANA reports.

Speaking on ANT1 on Saturday, Petsas added that despite the unprecedented global financial crisis caused by the pandemic, “we will move forward with the main directions of our program, which the people have entrusted upon us.”

Last year’s increased migration flows raised the number of Moria residents to 21,000, which the current government managed to reduce to 12,000 by decongesting Lesvos. The government has always pointed up that it is much preferable to have closed, supervised refugee facilities, as opposed to open, unruly accommodation centers, he stressed.
