The head of Greek main opposition New Democracy Tourism Sector Dodecanese MP Manos Konsolas, made the following statement:
“New Democracy will vote for suspending the abolition of reduced VAT rates in the third group of islands and, especially, the islands which the government burdened with managing the refugee and migrant flows, turning them into human warehouses.
Let it be noted that when we highlighted the issue, asking for VAT not to be increased in these islands, the government whistled indifferently.
Now it proceeds with this move to defuse reactions caused by its policies.
To support, however, the local economies of these islands, and especially tourism, much more is needed.
The Ministry of Tourism should formulate a dynamic communication campaign to restore the tourist reputation of these islands.
The government should immediately begin transferring refugees to the mainland and returning illegal immigrants to Turkey. It has to stop the lies and threats against the islanders.
Mr. Tsipras’ announcements on Nisyros island brought the Thessaloniki Program to memory.
Everyone knows that the infamous Thessaloniki Programme was identified as citizens’ deception.”
