EIDE MEETINGS WITH CAVUSOGLU, KOTZIAS
After his meeting with Cavusoglu, UN Secretary General Special Adviser Espen Barth Eide said that there was “a good exchange” as they prepare for meeting in Geneva next week.
In another post on Twitter, Eide said that his discussion with Kotzias in Athens on Thursday was “constructive”.
The meeting of the two Foreign Ministers was held as a replacement of a meeting that had been planned between Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan.
Cavusoglu met with the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres earlier to discuss an upcoming conference on Cyprus to be held in Geneva on January 12.
Kotzias is set to meet with Guterres at 4pm (11pm Cyprus time).
After his meeting with Guterres, Cavusoglu said: “We can reach a settlement. We not only need this for Turkey, Greece and the two sides on the island, but for the Eastern Mediterranean – our region – and the world needs such a positive development. It is not easy, but we have the determination.”
Ahead of his meetings in New York, Cavusoglu said that that Turkey will not make concessions on the Cyprus issue.
