Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos said on Thursday the ongoing “tragedy” of Cyprus constitutes a ?stigma? on international legal order, speaking at an event to mark 40 years since the death of Archbishop Makarios III in Nicosia.
“The example of Archbishop Makarios III invites us all to be vigilant so as not to forget our debt concerning Cyprus. Cyprus’ tragedy in the theatre of the European and world community has lasted so long and in such an unacceptable way, that its continuation constitutes a serious blow and indelible stigma not only on international and European law, but also on our culture,” he said.
