The reunification of Cyprus and the end of the Turkish occupation of the northern part of the island remain the firm objective of the Greek government, Defence Minister Panos Kammenos said on Friday addressing an event commemorating the liberation Struggle of EOKA in 1955-1959, in Larnaca.
“The reunification of Cyprus is a national imperative for Hellenism. The firm objective of our governments is ending the Turkish occupation in the framework of a mutually accepted, fair, comprehensive and permanent solution, in line with the decisions of the UN’s Security Council and with Cyprus’ status as a full and equal member of the European Union,” he said.
Kammenos said the solution will be for every last soldier to leave the island. “It is inconceivable to resolve the Cyprus problem in any other way.”
