French President Macron supports Greece on migration issues

French President Emmanuel Macron defended Greece on the migration crisis, arguing that the defense of EU borders cannot burden the entry countries alone, greekcitytimes.com reports.

He made the argument during the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly in Strasbourg on Tuesday.

Replying to a question on behalf of the European People’s Party (PPE) by New Democracy MEP Dora Bakoyannis, Macron said France commits to the rise of Frontex’s budget and staff.

The French President also called for a unified European policy focusing on the needs and problems of countries of origin for migrants, at the eastern borders of the Mediterranean, as well as for continuous European coordination.

“We must share the cost of protecting the borders,” the French President pointed out.

Bakoyannis had referred to the problematic increase of migrant inflows in recent months, and said Turkey is expending no effort to stem these flows.
