The debate on the state budget for 2020 is continuing in Parliament and will conclude on Wednesday with the relevant roll-call vote, int.ert.gr reports.
The basic budget numbers envision tax cuts of € 1.2 billion, a growth rate of 2.8% and a primary surplus of 3.58%.
Greece will be able to claim lower primary surpluses safely and aims to raise this issue within 2020, Finance Minister Christos Staikouras noted in his speech.
Also, Mr. Staikouras pointed out that the rise in tax revenues provided by the budget, will come from the economy’s growth and the broadening of the taxation base, while he stressed that it marks a substantial recovery of the economy.
New Democracy MPs who spoke during the debate, defended the budget, pointing out that it would give new impetus to the Greek economy.
On the other hand, opposition MPs criticized the budget, underlining that it would bring new tax burdens.
