US State Department calls Turkey’s activities in the Mediterranean ‘provocative’

A State Department spokesman said that while the United States generally does not take a position on maritime border disputes between other states, “it considers Turkey’s activities unhelpful and provocative” and “as a matter of long-term policy, we encourage states to resolve their differences peacefully and in accordance with the international law,” int.ert.gr reports.

“As for the Turkey-Libya memorandum of understanding, it cannot, as a legal matter, affect the rights or obligations of third countries, such as Greece. We also note that under international law, the islands generally produce an EEZ and a continental shelf just as any land territory”, noted the spokesman.
