Mike Pompeo welcomed 2021 by posting on Twitter a series of photographs celebrating the New Year, among them a spectacular photo of fireworks over the Acropolis, according to greekreporter.com.
The US Secretary of State included photos of Athens on New Year’s Eve, along with Berlin and Sydney to highlight how “the world has benefitted from four great years of America First.”
Under the stewardship of Pompeo, relations between the US and Greece have reached the highest point of recent decades.
During his September visit to Greece, he hailed the country as a “true pillar of stability” in the Mediterranean, adding that the relationship between the two countries was “at an all-time high.”
He also announced that Souda Naval Base on Crete island would become the home for the giant vessel the USS Hershel “Woody” Williams.
He added that US-Greece military cooperation “has been enhanced significantly.”
