Greek tourism: Optimism after first wave of bookings for 2018 season (video)

After a very good year for Greek tourism in 2017, the first messages from bookings are positive driving the sector’s experts to forecast a further increase in arrivals.

However, they still have certain reservations about business performance and the overall competitiveness of the Greek tourist product due to increased taxation – especially since an overnight charge was imposed to consumers from the beginning of the year – as well as the recovery recorded in the neighboring Turkey market.

Speaking on Tornos News camera, Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) President Yannis Retsos stressed the need to maintain the high quality of the Greek tourist product.

Head of the Hellenic Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Alexandros Vassilikos, points out the necessity of a separate strategy for every destination.

At the same time, the president of the Pan-Hellenic Hotelier Federation Mr. Grigoris Tassios calls for the solution of key issues in the sector.

Finally, FedHATTA President Lysandros Tsilidis, referring to internal tourism, argues that there is a recovery in the interest of the Greeks to travel again.
