Record 7,600km flight connects Montreal with Athens

Air Transat Flight TS690 touched down in Athens at 7:45 am on Monday, having flown all the way from Montreal, Canada, greekcitytimes.com reports.

The one-time service was operated by Airbus A321LR and covered 7,651 km.

The transatlantic flight was the longest commercial service the A321 has carried out thus far.

The scheduled flight time was nine hours and five minutes, but it touched down within eight hours and 20 minutes due to strong tailwinds.

Air Transat took delivery of the four-month-old aircraft in July this year. The aircraft has 12 premium economy seats at the front of the aircraft and a further 187 economy seats.

Greece travel restrictions extended

All passengers arriving in Greece must fill in a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) at least a day before arrival, providing information that will include their departure airport, the address where they will be staying and the expected duration of their stay in Greece, among others. The information on the form is a key element of the country’s planning for protection against the pandemic and preventing the spread of the virus.

The Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority underlined that before accepting passengers for boarding, airlines must check:

  • the PLF submission confirmation at least the day before the flight, which is a mandatory travel document
  • the correspondence with the QR code and the PLF

Airlines that do not comply with this control obligation will be responsible for the repatriation of passengers at the expense of the company.
