Tour operators ready for record bookings on "Sunshine Saturday" this year

International tour operators and travel agents are preparing for the “Sunshine Saturday” – the busiest day of the year for booking holidays, ANA reports.

Tour operator Thomas Cook has already announced that searches were up 24 percent year on year since Christmas Day with new destinations including Marsa Alam in Egypt, Tunisia and Marrakech in Morocco.

TUI Group also expected a very positive first Saturday of the year with almost 1 million people expected to visit a TUI store or website to book a getaway with Montenegro and Cape Verde as new destinations.

Both are expecting the busiest holiday day of the year this weekend, named “Sunshine Saturday” as a result of the high number of reservations made.

The top destinations for 2018 are likely to be Greece and Cyprus, while Turkey is also expected to record a recovery, even though demand is likely to be lower than usual levels prior to the terrorist attacks that occurred in recent years.

A record number of digital bookings via tablet devices or mobile phones is also expected.
