“Greece condemns the breach of borders and treaties, and the international community and NATO ought to exert every influence to ceasefire, in order to avoid the escalation of instability and prevent any human casualties and new refugee flows,” declared the Greek prime minister after his meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Thursday, at Maximus Mansion, in the context of the head of the Atlantic Alliance’s visit in Greece, int.ert.gr reports.
Mr. Mitsotakis also announced that he has called for the reinforcement of NATO forces in the Aegean. For his part, Mr. Stoltenberg stressed that NATO cannot take a stand on Greek-Turkish issues and called for a political solution and respect for international law.
In addition, he recommended to Turkey to exhibit “restraint” during the military offensive in Syria and noted that “what is important to remember is that we need to continue to stand together in our common fight against the common enemy, which is ISIS and its further containment.
