The Temple of Epicurean Apollo in the Peloponnese, Greece will host for the first time in its long history of an overnight «vigil» experiential performance entitled «From Darkness to Light», by the acclaimed international choreographer / director Apostolia Papadamaki (Saturday, July 28).
The “Sleep & Dream Performance series” which enchanted audiences as well as critics when it was presented at the Vorres Museum (2014), on the Main Stage of the Onassis Cultural Foundation (2016) and in the Piraeus Municipality Theater (2017), now travels for the first time outdoors, in a sacrosanct site of profound energy: the Temple of Apollo Epicurius in Figaleia on the borders between Arcadia, Messenia and Ilia, at an altitude of 1130 meters.
Papadamaki invites the audience to coexist creatively with the artistic team, be inspired by the unique landscape, honor the rising of the Full Moon behind the Temple, Sleep and Dream in the surrounding area of the emblematic temple and see the Sun rising in the morning concluding a cycle literally and metaphorically “From Darkness to Light”.
A site specific performance that celebrates the relationship of man with the divine, explores the realm of sleep & dream as a creative and healing process and cultivates the connection between self and collective expression through dance and music. The distinguished choreographer also draws inspiration from the ceremonial “incubations” of the ancient Greeks and from the characteristics of the Temple: power, beauty and harmony.
The performance is co produced by the Greek Ministry of Culture and Sports, kindly supported by the Greek National Organization for Tourism and the Prefecture of Western Greece, in cooperation with the Ephorate of Antiquities of Ilia.
