Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki honours President of Cyprus Republic

The Law School of the Aristotelian University of Thessaloniki, on Thursday honored Mr. Nicos Anastasiades, President of the Republic of Cyprus with an honorary law degree, greekcitytimes.com reports.

During his acceptance speech, Anastasiades reminded his audience that the Cyprus issue is an international law and European Union issue, pointing out that “we will not waver under any threats, and will continue to fight for the issue.”

In response to questions regarding the recent threats made to Cyprus by Turkey’s president, the President replied with a question. “Have you heard any other advanced country create or express pride for violations of human rights or military actions it carries out?”

The Cyprus Republic, noted Anastasiades, is determined to participate in any negotiations the UN Secretary General believes necessary “that would prepare the ground for talks leading to a viable and functional resolution to the Cyprus issue.”

“What fortifies the republic is international law”, he stressed, “that’s why the Cyprus Republic tries to have excellent relations with surrounding countries and establish the EEZ with Egypt, Israel and Lebanon based on the 1972 Law of the Sea.”
