Yorgos Lanthimos won Best European Director for 2019, while his latest film “The Favourite” won Best Film and Best Comedy at this year’s 32nd European Film Awards 2019 in Berlin on Saturday, December 7, int.ert.gr reports.
“The Favourite” also won Best European Actress award for Olivia Colman, as well as Best Costume”, “Best Scenography”, “Best Editing”, and “Best Makeup.”
Olivia Colman was not present at the award ceremony but sent a video message, while the film’s producer, Ed Guiney, a close associate of the Greek film director, received the award for Yorgos Lanthimos.
Antonio Banderas won Best European Actor Award, while the Lifetime Achievement award went to German director Werner Herzog, who received it from his German colleague Wim Wenders. Juliette Binoche received the European achievement in world cinema award.
The European Film Awards are considered the most significant film awards in Europe and are given by the European Film Academy, according to the Oscars model.
