The Lattara Archaeological Site-Henri Prades Museum in Montpellier, in southern France, hosts an important exhibition titled “The Marseille Adventure. Greeks, Iberians, and Galatians in Northwestern Mediterranean” which runs through July 6, 2020, according to int.ert.gr.
Before the founding of Marseilles by the Greek Phoenicians , who came from Ionia, the indigenous peoples of the Southern Galatia and the Iberian Peninsula had already contact with Mediterranean societies. Contacts and partnerships between local communities accelerated the development of trade and fostered cultural exchanges, resulting in the structural transformation of these societies.
Mediterranean shipping, economic relations, cultural exchanges, the establishment of colonies, the dynamics of trade positions and armed conflict are some of the themes presented via 400 works coming from several Mediterranean museums.
The show focuses on the relations between the Greeks, Iberians and Galatians, in the area between Nice and Emporion (Ampurias), from the 8th to the 1st century BC.
This is an exhibition of national interest as stated by the French Ministry of Culture and is held by the Lattara Archaeological Site-Henri Prades Museum and the ARCHIMEDE Lab, in collaboration with the Marseille Museum of History and the Catalan Archaeological Museum.
On April 25 and 26, 2020, the Henri Prades Museum runs a two-day program that includes a demonstration of a gun battle, a presentation of a copy of an ancient Greek shipwreck, the construction of pottery, and illustration of ancient Greek recipes.
