The New York Mets home opener on July 24 featured a special honor for two Greek doctors, Dr. Michael Zervos and Dr. Costas Bizekis, from NYU Langone hospital in New York, threw out the ceremonial first pitch.

The Mets posted on Twitter: “Dr. Michael Zervos and Dr. Costas Bizekis from @nyulangone, who continue to risk their lives and work tirelessly to save others in the fight against COVID-19 threw out today’s ceremonial first pitch.”

Many Mets fans tweeted in response, including Patrick Durek who posted, “Some heroes wear capes. Some wear scrubs and Mets caps,” and Jenfrain who posted, “Thank you for honoring true heroes!”

Georgia Kaporis posted a response, too, commenting, “Awesome!!! How amazing and well deserved!”

Dr. Zervos and Dr. Bizekis both specialize in Thoracic Surgery. Their effort was lucky for the Mets who won the game 1-0 against their Eastern Division rivals the Atlanta Braves.
