“A special and significant event as it marks 200 years since Greece was liberated from Ottoman rule and the modern Greek state we know today was established,” Labour MP Paul Eagle posted on social media.

“Many generations of Greeks have made Wellington south their home away from home. I’m reminded of the similarities between Māori and Greek whānau and proud to represent them in the #newzealand Parliament,” he added.
