Trump vows to deport 3 million immigrants and build 'fence' wall (video)

President-elect Donald Trump said in an interview to air on Sunday that certain areas of his promised border wall with Mexico, a key part of his White House campaign platform, could be fenced instead.

Asked in an interview with CBS’ ‘60 Minutes’ whether he would accept a fence instead of a wall, Trump said “for certain areas I would”.

“But certain areas, a wall is more appropriate. I’m very good at this, it’s called construction, there could be some fencing,” commented Trump.

During his presidential race against Democrat Hillary Clinton, Trump repeatedly promised to make Mexico pay for the border wall, part of his plan to toughen immigration law and secure the border.

MIGRANT DEPORTATIONS

Trump added that he will keep his vow to deport millions of undocumented migrants from the US, saying as many as three million could be removed after he takes office.

What we are going to do is get the people that are criminal and have criminal records, gang members, drug dealers, where a lot of these people, probably two million, it could be even three million — we are getting them out of our country or we are going to incarcerate,” stated Trump.

The billionaire real estate baron made security at the US-Mexico border a central plank of his insurgent presidential campaign.

ELECTION

Some 60.3 million people voted for Trump in the November 8 election, fewer than the 60.8 million who chose Clinton.

However, Trump’s strong showing in swing states including Michigan meant he triumphed in the Electoral College which ultimately picks the President.
