The ministry’s goal is to make 2018 a year of research and innovation in the farming sector, Rural Development Minister Vangelis Apostolou said in a statement to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Saturday.
“Already in possession of a Rural Development Programme that has absorbed about 31 pct [of available funds] in its first two years of operation while allocating 65 pct of them, we are on a very good track for planning and absorption of the specific funds,” he noted.
The priority in 2018, he continued, will be to emphasise areas that will lead to an agriculture that is able to compete in the western market and, at the same time, through measures and actions based on what he termed “precision farming, quality farming and innovation farming” to give Greek farming another “hue” that makes it competitive in international markets, using the quality of its products as a tool.
