Netflix is creating a new animated series set in the vivid world of Greek mythology, titled “Gods & Heroes”, according to greekreporter.com.
The series was created by Greek brothers Charley and Vlas Parlapanides, the screenwriters behind “Immortals.” They will also be attached as writers and executive producers on the show.
The cast includes Chris Diamantopoulos, Mamie Gummer (the daughter of acclaimed actress Meryl Streep), and Jason O’Mara.
“Gods & Heroes” focuses on an illegitimate son of Zeus who is tasked with saving, quite literally, heaven and earth. Nevertheless, he has a powerful goddess and her allies set against him in his journey.
“In ‘Gods & Heroes’ we wanted to tell a wholly original story set in the beloved world of Greek mythology”, note the Parlapanides brothers.
Netflix has been making more and more forays into animation since the success of other animated series on the streaming service. Their slate features “Castlevania”, “Godzilla: The Planet Eater”, and upcoming series such as “Ghost in the Shell” and “Pacific Rim.”
The animators of “Castlevania” are also involved in the making of “Gods & Heroes.” With such a talented group of people behind the scenes, “Gods & Heroes” is expected to be an epic series.
