The Holy Synod of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Fanar, Istanbul on Saturday unanimously elected the Metropolitan Elpidophoros of Bursa as the new Greek Orthodox Archbishop of America, after his predecessor Archbishop Demetrios submitted his resignation to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew last week, according to ANA.
Previously the abbot at the Halki Monastery, Metropolitan Elpidophoros was born in Makrochori, Istanbul in 1967 and studied at the Theological School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, followed by postgraduate studies at the Bonn University School of Philosophy.
