President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos on Friday unveiled the sculpture “Tree of Peace” in Rizari Park, offered by the Athens Association of Friends of Children with Cancer “ELPIDA”, ANA reports.
After congratulating Marianna Vardinoyannis, president of the Friends of Children with Cancer Association “ELPIDA”, Pavlopoulos noted that “the great legacy of Greece and the Greeks is to serve, in full, the great ideals of Man, not only within our borders, for our People and for our Nation, but also on a planetary level, as consistent and active members of the international community and of our great European family, the European Union.”
He also said that these ideals, which started from the pillar of Ancient Greece, are – or should be – at the heart of European democracy and European culture, while noting that International Peace allows members of the International Community – therefore the States and the peoples – to realise the vision of peaceful coexistence and the consequent avoidance of armed conflicts, in whatever form, with international law as the main tool.
