The Athens Electric Urban Railway drivers’ union announced a work stoppage on Tuesday between 11am and 4pm and, consequently, there will be no train services along the Piraeus-Kifissia railway (Line 1) during these 5 hours even though the Athens metro and the city’s suburban railway (Proastiakos) will continue to operate normally throughout the day.
The drivers’ union went ahead with the work stoppage despite initially claiming that talks last week with administration ended on a positive note. On the other hand, the authority that manages all fixed rail modes of transport in Athens STASY, commented in a press statement that despite its efforts to cooperate with the eight workers’ unions it fails to understand the rationale behind Tuesday’s work stoppage.
