Crete: Fire at Hotel in Anissaras

A fire is currently underway at a hotel construction site in Anissaras, Hersonissos, near Heraklion, Crete, prompting a major response from the Fire Department.

According to the Fire Department, the emergency call was received at 11:10 a.m. on Monday. The fire broke out in a section of the Knossos Royal hotel, which is currently under renovation.

A large firefighting operation has been deployed to contain the blaze. Six fire trucks with 18 firefighters are operating at the scene.

The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

The hotel belongs to the Karatzis Group, was acquired by Aldemar for €80 million, and was renamed Nana Royal.

The renovation project amounts to €40 million and is included in the Recovery and Resilience Fund (RRF), aiming for the opening of a high-standard resort during the 2026 tourist season.
