Report: Two Athens stadiums provided to Muslims for religious ceremony

Greece’s Ministry of Culture and Sports is providing two stadiums in Athens for Muslims to gather for Eid al-Adha, the Festival of Sacrifice, on Friday.

According to a Kathimerini newspaper report, the two spaces are the Peace and Friendship Stadium (SEF) on Faliro, in Athens’ southern coast, and the Olympic Stadium (OAKA) in the northern suburb of Marousi, as has been the case in previous years.

Associations or communities organizing prayer meetings for the city’s Muslims are asked to apply for use of the spaces at the administrative services of the two stadiums.

Groups in other parts of the country that have not reserved a space to gather for the celebration are encouraged to contact their local municipal authority in order to make arrangements, Kathimerini notes.

Eid al-Adha commemorates Prophet Abraham’s decision to sacrifice his son Ismail, on God’s command.
