The Pakistani community’s school in Greece, dubbed “Unity”, will open its doors this Sunday for the first time in Athens, accepting 100 children.
The children will learn Urdu, English and Arabic, while at the same time their mothers will learn the Greek language.
The classes will be hosted at the 144th junior school in the central district of Sepolia, which was offered by the municipality of Athens.
Lessons will begin at 10:00 with the reception of children. The classes were scheduled to start on October 29 but the opening was cancelled due to threats launched by members of the extreme-right party Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avghi).
The head of the Pakistani Community Javed Aslam said to Athens Macedonian News Agency that “we decided to cancel the opening of the school to avoid problems. We will start in November with a feast, not with hatred and shouting. This is the picture we want to give, of a world with humanity and love.” Aslam noted that all the children that will attend the Sunday lessons are pupils in Greek schools where they learn Greek.
