Most shops selling fish, vegetables, bread and other ‘Lenten’ food – including street markets and mini-markets – will be open for business until midday on the Clean Monday holiday on February 19, when Greeks will celebrate the start of Lent, ANA reports.
Central markets will begin operating on the preceding Sunday, with most shops in the Central Consumers’ Market at Rendi (the central vegetable market) opening on Sunday morning until the afternoon on Clean Monday. The Varvakio central fish market in Athens will open before midnight on Sunday and operate until midday on Clean Monday.
