With a series of workshops, exhibitions and events, the State Library of Queensland aims to revive the atmosphere of the old cafes, restaurants and small businesses that were owned by Greeks in the early 20th century, according to greekreporter.com.
These emblematic meeting places were among the most popular city destinations for thousands of Australians of the time.
The ”Meet Me at the Paragon” show series aims to bring back to life not only histories and photographs but the full experience of being inside the local shops of the early 1900s, by seeing, feeling and even hearing what it felt like to be there, decades ago.
In a very astute effort to bring the past to the present, this initiative will include curator tours, photoshop workshops, and many other activities throughout this summer in Australia, rekindling memories of being in these businesses and making them come alive for a new generation.
The Library’s programs and activities started on September 27, and they will conclude on March 15, 2020 in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland. Some of the events are already sold out.
The Library aims to remind the older and inform the younger on the history of the shops, tavernas, cafes and other places that were among the most popular in the state, and the stories that they tell.
These are stories of both the struggles and numerous successes of the Greek community of that time.
