“The borders are guarded and excellently protected,” National Defence Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos declared in a statement from the Kastanies border crossing in Evros on Sunday, after visiting military units in the Evros region with Deputy Defence Minister Alkiviadis Stefanis to “see the situation for ourselves”.
The minister congratulated all the forces operating along the Greek-Turkish border, both the armed forces personnel and the police, as well as the coast guard officers operating in other regions of Greece, pointing out that for two days and nights they have been unflaggingly doing their duty to protect the inviolability of the Greek borders, which are also the borders of Europe.
