Greek Labor Minister: 'We protect workers in vulnerable groups'

Greek Labor Minister Yiannis Vroutsis on Saturday stressed the significance of the ministry’s emergency and temporary measures in support of the country’s workers, and of the preventive measures that employers are required to take under the guidelines of the National Public Health Organization (EODY) to protect workers’ rights and safety against the coronavirus, speaking to Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA-MPA).

The ministerial circular, which was drafted as per the provisions of the Code of Health and Safety of Workers, clarifies the responsibility of employers, who are obliged to modify employees’ work requirements according to coronavirus protection protocols and therefore should:

– Suspend administrative obligations and adjust the working hours of employees.
– Unilaterally place employees in a teleworking system.
– Grant special-purpose leave to working parents whose children are: enrolled in kindergartens, are very young and attend regular schools, or special education classes, or have disabilities and special needs.
– Not hesitate to remove workers from workplaces, in accordance with EODY’s guidelines.
