The Migration and Asylum Ministry and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are launching an EU-funded pilot action that will provide recognized refugees with a two-month accommodation until they find more permanent housing, once they leave Greek island facilities, ANA reports.
The action was agreed at a meeting on Thursday between the Migration and Asylum Minister Notis Mitarachi and the head of IOM in Greece, Gianluca Rocco. After the meeting, Mitarachi noted that “we are starting to offer temporary accommodation to recognized refugees coming from the islands, on a pilot basis. Our goal is to help them join the Helios program, to find housing and work. This way we are dealing with a problem that occurs mainly in Athens, and avoiding the phenomenon of refugees gathering in squares.”
