Two high school students, a boy, and a girl were crushed by a wall that collapsed during the strong 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Samos, protothema.gr reports.
Based on media reports, the girl was declared dead on arrival while doctors try to save the boy.
Furthermore, significant damages have been recorded on the island after the 6.7 magnitude earthquake that occurred at noon in the sea area northwest of the island.
The Minister of Development, Adonis Georgiadis, also spoke about extensive damage to buildings during his first briefing in Parliament.
According to samos24.gr, part of the church of Panagia Theotokou in Karlovasi has collapsed.
In Turkey, a video showed yachts drifting away by the mini tsunami that followed moments after the 6,7R earthquake.
Professor Konstantinos Synolakis, who developed the global tsunami simulation model, speaking to protothema.gr, said that a level tsunami was a possibility.
“What we saw was a tsunami similar to the one that hit Kos and what we are wondering whether after the earthquake there was what we call a submarine landslide.”
He believes that safe conclusions can be drawn only after the examination of tides if they are established in Samos or on another island, something that will happen in the next few hours.
