Despite the snow and frigid temperatures across the country, a record 25,000 Greeks received the coronavirus vaccine on Monday, according to greekreporter.com.
This is a record for the most inoculations accomplished in the country during a 24-hour period.
Greece received its first shipment of the long-awaited vaccine just after Christmas.
So far, more than 550,000 people in the country have already been vaccinated against the coronavirus.
Greece’s two biggest vaccination centers, located in the Athenian suburb of Marousi, and in Thessaloniki, began operations today.
Officials expect that more than 5,500 inoculations will take place at the two centers each day.
Currently, appointments to receive the free vaccine are open to all healthcare workers, as well as those aged 60 to 64, and those over the age of 75.
In the meanwhile, a total of 698 cases of Covid-19 were diagnosed in Greece on Monday, 36 more than the 662 cases that were recorded in the country just one day earlier, on Sunday, but far fewer than the 1,000+ that had been reported in the past two weeks, during the worst of the most recent wave of the pandemic,
Nearly half of the 698 cases diagnosed in Greece were found in Attica, where a total of 328 instances of the coronavirus were identified.
Tragically, 26 people with the coronavirus passed away in the country over the past 24-hour period, which is three more than those recorded yesterday.
