21st Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People on Dec.1

One of the most significant film festivals for children and adolescents, returns on December 1-8, int.ert.gr reports.

The 21st Olympia International Film Festival for Children and Young People combines entertainment with education, introduces young people to cinema and the most significant, award-winning films from all over the world, while at the same time encouraging them to make their own.

The festival commences on Saturday, December 1st, at its main venue, the city of Pyrgos, and spreads to many cities in Western Greece and Peloponnese as well as in dozens of villages. This year, 76 films from 50 countries compete in the following sections: feature fiction, short-fiction, animation short and documentaries.

The films taking part in the festival deal with a wide range of issues that concern children and young people (relationships, school environment, addictions, loss, ecology, disability, diversity, child labor, etc.), but also with all aspects of modern world, which have a direct or indirect impact on their lives. The films focus on childhood and youth, inspired by UNICEF, UNESCO and other international organizations, aiming at developing critical and creative thinking and highlight the importance of respect for universal values and fundamental human rights, world peace, freedom, democracy, social progress and justice.

The films in competition, elected by the artistic director Dimitris Spyrou, represent the latest trends in children’s cinema and ensure diversity and the representation of countries whose cinematography is unknown to the general public.

In the festival’s popular section, Camera Zizanio, curated by Nikos Theodosiou, compete: 127 films from Greece, more than 100 films from almost all European countries and 30 films from America, Australia, Africa and Asia. Camera Zizanio’s program also includes movies made by children at kindergarten and others made entirely by children without any assistance from adults.
