Greek PM: Lignite phase-out a key aspect of national energy policy

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was on Monday briefed on the National Plan for Energy and Climate by the Energy Ministry’s leadership, ANA reports.

A key part of the government’s plan is to gradually phase out the use of lignite at electricity-production power plants, which includes the ceasing of operations of existing Public Power Corporation (PPC) lignite units by 2023, except Ptolemaida’s unit VI, which will be shut down by 2028.

A masterplan aiming to mobilize investments of up to 4.4 billion euros for the coal transition in Greece is expected to be ready by the end of June.
