Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum 2019: The latest trends in the cruise industry

There is no better holiday in the world than a cruise which combines luxury services comparable to a five-star hotel, all-inclusive packages of exceptional value and visits to a different destination every day.

Travel agencies can significantly increase their sales if they include Greek cruises in their products.

Cruise sales worldwide have grown by 68% during the 2007-2017 period.

These were all conclusions reached by experts during Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum 2019’s for which Tornos News is a sponsor.

The workshop was opened by the President of FedHATTA, Mr. Lysandros Tsilidis (photo).

Travel agencies are the backbone of the cruise industry. In the mature US tourist market 70% of travelers book their holidays (regardless of type) through a travel agency.

This fact makes it imperative for travel agencies to offer a ready-made product such as a cruise, noted Andreas Stylianopoulos, managing director of Navigator Travel & Tourist Services, addressing Greek and foreign tour operators who are interested in the Greek cruise.

For successful cruise sales, he continued, knowledge of the product is a prerequisite along with the market’s standards, but travel agencies that can follow the wave of developments, will record a substantial improvement in their revenues.

Greece has recorded a strong and rising interest in tourist experiences over recent years, and cruises can be the vehicle to offer such experiences, experts pointed out, based on the 7 million Europeans that book cruises every year.

Taking into account that more than 70% of holiday sales in the world are motivated by the acquisition of experiences through thematic tourism, and only 30% relaxation, a cruise can serve the needs of the modern traveler ideally, The Good Guy’s Tourism representative Christos Christodoulakis argued.

According to him, a cruise guarantees luxury vacations, offers luxury accommodation in cabins that equal luxury hotel suites with excellent views, and even adds extra luxury services – such as casinos, swimming pools, etc.).

Finally, he underlined that the needs of cruise travelers must be met in order for them to want to repeat the trip while the goal of the travel agent is to create dreams on their behalf, so they can feel like a Hollywood star on a luxury journey.
