International Driving Permit now required to rent cars throughout Greece

If you are planning on driving and are a non-EU resident, you will now be required to hold an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your national driver’s license, before you are able to hire a car in Greece.

Heavy fines for both customers and rental services along with confiscation of the vehicle will be imposed, according to the relevant law recently passed by the Greek Parliament.

The Greek Car Rental Companies Association presses the Transport Ministry to clarify the new laws to travelers through a circular in view of the start of the summer season.
