Santorini is among “The Hottest Wine Destinations of 2016”, according to an article by leading travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller.
The destinations were pointed out by experts who were asked where they would be excited to go during the new year and the result was the wine lover’s definitive list of regions to explore.
Regarding Santorini vineyards, CNT reports that “besides pristine waters and iconic blue-and-white houses, there’s another reason to visit this stunning Mediterranean island: the wine. Volcanic soils lend the local Assyrtiko whites a distinctive minerality that makes them especially great with grilled squid and octopus, whole baked fish, and other classic Greek island foods.”
“I love Assyrtiko,” declared Thomas Pastuszak, wine director of The NoMad, NYC, “and Santorini is the perfect wine destination: a great combination of beautiful place and fantastic wines.”
The “Hottest Wine Destinations of 2016” are the following:
1. Valais, Ελβετία

2. Mosel, Γερμανία

3. Ισραήλ

4. Αίτνα, Σικελία

5. Rh?ne Valley, Γαλλία

6. Piemonte, Ιταλία

7. Prince Edward County, Οντάριο

8. Σαντορίνη

9. Γεωργία
